Michigan Chapter

The Michigan Chapter of the Organ Historical Society (O.H.S.) was founded in 1994 for the purpose of presenting the 1995 O.H.S. Lower Michigan National Convention. Founding officers were Dana Hull, President, MaryAnn Crugher Balduf, Secretary and Brian Buehler, Treasurer. Under their leadership, the Chapter remained active in southeast Michigan for the better part of a decade following the convention. During that time, its meetings showcased many historic organ venues and encouraged the restoration and maintenance of venerable instruments throughout the area. That period also saw Chapter members working diligently to continue restoration efforts centered on an 1892 Johnson & Sons instrument at the Cass Avenue Methodist Church in a Detroit urban neighborhood. Terry Jankowski subsequently assumed the treasurer’s duties and was formally elected to the position in 2005, along with Carl Balduf, President and Steven Ball, Vice President. A website, established in 2005, has replaced The Impost, the Chapter’s printed publication. The site contains minutes (with photos and sounds) of meetings since October 8, 2005, links to meeting notices, plus a page of recital announcements.

New Orleans Chapter

The New Orleans Chapter of the Organ Historical Society has the awesome task of looking after the many historic organs in the Crescent City. Rich in religious heritage, New Orleans and the surrounding area is home to many fine historic instruments. Over the last twenty years, the chapter has been a driving force in keeping these priceless treasures playing, and making sure that their owners are aware of the significance they hold in the history of our churches and institutions of worship. Our city has been the site of both a major national convention and a winter Odyssey.

Chicago-Midwest Chapter

The Chicago-Midwest Chapter of the Organ Historical Society was formed in 1980. Since that time, the Chapter has enjoyed a rich and varied range of activities, and has grown to include membership from as many as fourteen states. At the time of its formation, the name Chicago-Midwest was chosen since, while the Chapter’s primary focus was the organ in the Chicago area, it was then the only OHS Chapter in the Midwest region. The Chicago-Midwest Chapter issues a quarterly journal, The Stopt Diapason, long recognized for its excellence in quality research on organs not only in Chicago, but in many other areas, as well.
